THE DEAD MILKMEN Eat Your Paisley - Album Tabbed by: Ben Gladdle (moose9377@hotmail.com) unless noted otherwise. 1. Where The Tarantula Lives 2. Air Crash Museum 3. KKSuck2 4. Fifty Things 5. Happy Is 6. Beach Party Vietnam 7. I Hear Your Name 8. Two Feet Off The Ground 9. The Thing That Only Eats Hippies 10. Six Days 11. Swampland Of Desire 12. Take Me Apart 13. Earwig 14. Moron 15. The Fez (missing) 16. Vince Lombardi Service Center 1 - Where The Tarantula Lives ----------------------------- That cool little intro riff was quite difficult to figure out. I changed this recently so that it's easy to play the E chord at the start and then straight into the riff. E--0--2-0---------------- B--0------2-0-2-0-(0)---- G--1------------------1-- D--2--------------------- A--2--------------------- E--0--------------------- Or you could play it the old way I had it, which fits better with the A chord!! E--5--------------------- B--5--7-5---------------- G--6------6-4-6-4-(4)---- D--7------------------6-- A--7--------------------- E--5--------------------- Play however you like, whenever necessary throughout the song! Two guitarists would be nice for this... One for the riff, one for chords. And on another note, I think open chords are OK in this song. In fact, they're preferable. At least for the chorus with the G-G/F# and C-C/B bits. Chords: (you should know all of these :P) ------ EADGBe E 022100 A x02220 C x32010 D xx0232 G 320033 G/F# 2x0033 C/B x20010 Dsus4 xx0233 Dsus2 xx0230 Lyrics: ------ Verse: E Holland is ruled by midgets The Pope owns CBS The subway cars have been equipped with bars And they're cloning Rudolph Hess A Samantha Fox has gone frigid The President's been painted green E Jesus Christ has been frozen in ice But he still makes the scene Chorus: C Everybody wants to know what gives D G G/F# G C C/B C But I know where the Tarantula lives verse: Jim Baker got eaten by wombats The Fever's spread to town Ol' Doris Day has been taken away Has anybody seen my downs? Popeye got killed in combat Donny and Marie went punk B.F. Skinner has eaten my dinner There's a body in that trunk chorus: Everybody wants to know what gives But I know where the Tarantula lives Instrumental: Basically it's E and G for the most part, with D and C coming in near the end. I've tried to display where each chord comes in, cause tabbing all of it out would be painful. The timing itself is really easy if you just listen to the record. It sounds cool if you do little sus variations on the D at the end. Try putting D-Dsus4-D-Dsus2-D somewhere in there. There may be some variations on the E and G bits as well, but this is as far as I got, and I think it sounds just fine. 1:01 - E 1:12 - G 1:16 - E 1:24 - G 1:31 - D C G (x2) verse: Uncle Bob caught fire The protesters are on strike Mr. Green Jeans is acting obscene 'Cause his Jello has been spiked Honesty is a liar The truth is in the sink Auntie Bess says I must confess Now what do you all think? chorus: Everybody wants to know what gives But I know where the Tarantula lives (x3) (I know where) Everybody wants to know what gives But I know where the Tarantula lives G G/F# G C C/B C E End on E. 2 - Air Crash Museum -------------------- As far as I can tell, this song is very, very simple. For the most part, the guitar is just playing a G chord for almost the entire song. The bass is what really drives the song. Verse bass: (not exact on the number of notes) G--------------------------|-------------------------- D--------------5-5-7-5-----|-------------------------- A--5-5---7-7---------------|--5-5---7-7---3-2--------- E--------------------------|------------------5-3----- G Went out to feed the cattle and to my surprise My lawn was full of bodies just a gatherin' up the flies A big ol' jet liner had dropped from out of the sky Well I was so darn happy that I couldn't believe my eyes Chorus bass: G--------------------------| D--------------------------| A--------------------------| E--0-0-2-3---3--etc.-------| G We're gonna stuff'em Put'em on display 'tween Patsy Kline and Buddy Holly Verse: G Loadin' up my tractor Gonna take the bodies inside Betty Lou will bring the sawdust And I've got the formaldehyde I'm callin' up my neighbours Tell 'em all to drop by A body stuffin' party and we'll bake some kidney pie Chorus: We're gonna stuff'em Put'em on display 'tween Patsy Kline and Buddy Holly Bridge bass: Em G--------------------------|-------------------------- D--------------------------|-------------------------- A--------------------------|-------------------------- E--5-3-2-0------5-3-2-0----|--5-3-2-0---0----hold----- C D G--------------------------| D--------------------------| A--3--3--3----2--3--5------| E--------------------------| Em We'll have our own air crash museum C D People lined for miles just to see'em Hold the C at the end for an extra bar to match the walk up on the bass. Verse: G Jim Croce's in the corner The Big Bopper's by the stairs Ricky Nelson's in the kitchen But nobody cares 3 - KKSuck2 ----------- Hey, this one actually is a tab and not just chords for a change! It's a bit hard to follow without words so I've put the times in just to help a bit. Timing is approximate. The rest of it is really, really easy. And adding to my tradition of commenting for no reason (or purpose) on the individual songs (and you thought this was just a tab), I have to say that the 3rd verse "Chuck got up...", is one of my favourite DM lyrics. Fifty things riff: (for chorus) E---------------|--- B---------------|--- G---7------7----|--- D-----6h7----7--|-6- A---------------|--- E---------------|--- Only play the end note at the very end of the song. Verse: ----- D C Paul told us all he's gonna have a baby D C But Jeanie said "Paul can't do that" D C So Paul got mad and left in a hurry D C Now Jeanie's sure he forgot his hat Chorus: (with riff) ------ I've got fifty things to do But I'll get back to you (and) verse: Somebody left a body in the basement No I'm not sure just a' who it is But Tamara went down there and saw it this morning She says it kinda looks like her Uncle Jim chorus: I've got fifty things to do But I'll get back to you (and) Bridge: ------ B A No I won't do your dishes B A No I won't clean up this mess B A No I haven't got any pills B A No I haven't got any hash B A No I won't do your dishes F# I won't clean up this goddamn mess verse: Chuck got up and made a cup of coffee Stepped on a roach and went back to bed When Tina got up she saw the roach "Is this for breakfast?" is what she said chorus: I've got fifty things to do But I'll get back to you (and) verse: Pat's comin' over about 2:30 Danny'll be here 'bout quarter to four If one more person comes to see me Gonna have to get a revolvin' door bridge: No I haven't seen your skateboard I haven't seen your Black Flag patch No I haven't seen your records I haven't seen any of that No I haven't seen your skateboard I haven't seen your Black Flag patch verse: Barbara I'm sorry if you were unhappy But you can't say I didn't try So many things I wanted to do So many things, but such little time chorus: I've got fifty things to do But I'll get back to you chorus: Fifty things to do But I'll get back to you End on the solo (with the last note!). 5 - Happy Is ------------ Very simple in terms of chords. Some day I may tab out all the fingerpicking, but don't hold your breath. You can make it sound fairly convincing for yourself at home just by picking through the chords in any old fashion. It'll do! Oh, and unlike most Milkmen songs, play these chords open if you like. I think it actually sounds better. Also if you're picking, use a Dsus2 (xx0230) instead of the D. Sounds a bit better. Lyrics: ------ Verse: C D Happy is the bride C D The sun shines upon C D Happy is the corpse G The rain falls down upon C D You say I'm happy C D Ya' know that can't be true C D Cause I won't be happy G 'till I annihilate you Chorus: Em Like some worm that crawls on the ground A Like someone we don't want around C Em You're the unwanted relative at the picnic A Like some worm that crawls on the ground D C G Like someone we don't want around verse: Happy is the bride The sun shines upon Happy is the corpse The rain falls down upon You say I'm happy Ya' know that that's a lie Cause I won't be happy 'till I see you die chorus: Like some river they had to pollute Like some mad dog we gotta shoot We're gonna have to end your misery Like some river they had to pollute Like some mad dog we gotta shoot Instrumental: (consists of fingerpicking the following) Em Am D Em C Em Am D Em C verse: Happy are the children Playin' in the sun Happy is my wife Her day of work is done You say I'm happy Ya' know that can't be true Cause I won't be happy 'till I annihilate you chorus: Like some worm that crawls on the ground Like someone we don't want around You're the unwanted relative at the picnic Like some worm that crawls on the ground Like someone we don't want around verse: Happy is the bride The sun shines upon Happy is the corpse The rain falls down upon End on G. 6 - Beach Party Vietnam ----------------------- I think this is another really easy one. Though the bass is again what really makes the song. The whole song is practically just a D chord throughout. There is a riff that is played at various points in the song. The bass covers it up a lot of the time, but you can hear this riff now and then. D riff: ------ E---2-2-2---2-2-2-3-0----- B---3-3-3---3-3-3-3-3----- G---2-2-2---2-2-2-2-2----- D---0-0-0---0-0-0-0-0----- A------------------------- E------------------------- So basically just a D throughout, with a little Dsus4-Dsus2 bit at the end. Bass (for most of the song): ---- G-------------------5-4--- D------4------------------ A--5-5-------5-5-5-------- E------------------------- To really complicate things (not) there is a G somewhere in the chorus! Just play a straight G chord and G on the bass. The only other bit you need to know is the outro. Bass (outro): ---- D G-------------------------|--- D----4-5-6---7--7-5-4-----|--- A--5------------------5---|-5- E-------------------------|--- The Song: Chorus: ------ D It's a beach party Vietnam Surfin' with the viet-cong G Cookin' hot dogs with napalm D A beach party viet-nam Verse: ----- D Franky and Annett were Layin' on the sand When Franky got a letter From his From his Uncle Sam It said: Get Moon Dog and all your friends You're all invited to a chorus: Beach party Vietnam Surfin' with the viet-cong Cookin' hot dogs with napalm A beach party viet-nam D riff - Hey Franky, aren't you gonna give me your class ring? - Oh, I'm afraid I can't do that, Annette - Why not? - 'Cause I don't have any arms! (AH!) chorus: Beach party Vietnam Surfin' with the viet-cong Cookin' hot dogs with napalm A beach party viet-nam D riff Annette, she wants Franky's ring Franky wants Annette's thing They're layin' on the West Coast There's gonna be a wiener roast chorus: Beach party Vietnam Surfin' with the viet-cong Cookin' hot dogs with napalm A beach party viet-nam outro: End on D. 7 - I Hear Your Name -------------------- The verse just sounds like a D almost all the way through. I'd play it (xx0232) and then slide up to a high G briefly (xxx787). This is a fairly weird one, though, and I'd love any help/corrections. Verse: D Across the sea across the sea that's where your hand was takin' me High G Goin' to places that I've never been Chorus: G D A I hear your name Bm G D Someone's calling your name G D A I better go now Bm G Bm Someone's calling your name Interlude: E C verse: I thought I saw you in a department store You turned the corner and it wasn't you I thought I saw you walkin' on the sidewalk I blew my horn but You where someone else chorus: I hear your name Someone's calling your name I better go now Someone's calling your name interlude: verse: Open a window (x2) Walk through the windows Walkin' through windows... End on Dm. 8 - Two Feet Off the Ground --------------------------- Tabbed by: R.E. Tupmoca & B. Breslin and redone by: Ben Gladdle (moose9377@hotmail.com) The previous version was close, but sounds like it's in the wrong key. Thanks to them for their tab which helped. It has the solo now, as well as the outro bit. I've rearranged the solo (by request) to make it a bit easier to play, and also I fixed up a couple of notes which were a little bit off. Bass: for the Intro and Verses ---- G|-------------------------- D|-------------------------- A|-------------------------- E|--7--7--5--5--2--2--0--0-- Verse: ----- B A Illusions are real So just feel the way you feel It's time to unwind Just relax you'll feel fine Chorus: ------ G D Light up a smoke G D Life is no joke B G D Shake your head and hear the sound A B Take another look around G D Nothing's lost that isn't found A B G You're just two feet off the grooo---ound Verse: Green army men coming in from the sky Just take a trip to the bakery And tell us what you can't see Chorus: Light up a smoke Life is no joke Shake your head and hear the sound Take another look around Nothing's lost that isn't found You're just two feet off the ground Solo: with verse bass riff. ---- (2:02) E--------------------------------------------------------- B--------------------------------------------------------- G------------7-----7--9-7-9-9b-7-------------------------- D------7-9------9-----------------9--7-9----------7-8-9--- A---9-------------------------------------7--8--9--------- E--------------------------------------------------------- very slight bend (2:10) E--------------------------------------------------------- B--------------------------------------------------------- G------------7-----7--9-7-9-10-10-10-9--7----------------- D------7-9------9--------------------------9-9--7-8-9-9--- A---9----------------------------------------------------- E--------------------------------------------------------- (2:18) E---------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------- G---------------------------------------------- D------7--9-----7--9-----7--9-----7--9-----7--- A---9--------9--------9--------9--------9------ E---------------------------------------------- (2:23) E---------------------------------- B---------------------------------- G------7-----7-9b-7---------------- D---9-----9----------9--7--8--9---- A---------------------------------- E---------------------------------- Chorus: Light up a smoke Life is no joke Shake your head and hear the sound Take another look around Nothing's lost that isn't found You're just two feet off the ground Repeat B G D A. However, Bucky Lewis (lordamisthar@hotmail.com) has helped me out with them and I'm a little more certain now :) Verse: Just G and F, like so ----- E|---3-------3--1--3----- B|---3-------3--1--3----- G|---4-------4--2--4----- D|---5-------5--3--5----- A|---5-------5--3--5----- E|---3-------3--1--3----- Wendel brought it to life In the guest-room bathtub It was a special project for his 4-H club But it broke loose out in the middle of the night And now it's eating flower children left and right! Ending: ------ G F G Bb E|---3-3-3-3--1--3--1-- B|---3-3-3-3--1--3--3-- G|---4-4-4-4--2--4--3-- D|---5-5-5-5--3--5--3-- A|---5-5-5-5--3--5--1-- E|---3-3-3-3--1--3----- End on Bb. 10 - Six Days ------------- This is still one of their best tunes, and catchy as hell too. And, as an added bonus... it's really pretty damn easy! I recently fixed this up (23/5/01) and it's a lot better now. The Dm in the verse used to be a D and I don't know how that one slipped through. I think it sounds much better now. Also, there's a Fsus4 in the ending (133311) which finishes it off. Verse: ----- Dm Bb I've been to Phoenix Dm Bb So Goddamn hot Dm Bb G C 110 in the shade - I didn't like it a lot I've been to L.A. So sunny and bright So clean and good for you It don't feel right Chorus: ------ Bb F Bb F Six days we'll be away from here Bb Dm Bb We'll steal a car, hijack a plane verse: I've been to Denver 8 miles high I didn't like it - and you know why Deep down in New Orleans We met with guns Those people got a weird idea Of what is fun chorus: Six days maybe New Mexico Or would it all just be the same Instrumental Bit: ---------------- G# D# C# D# G# D# C# D# verse: I've seen El Paso Ain't goin' back Spit across the border And those mothers spit back I loved it in Austin I wanted to stay Cheap rent and Lone Star Beer Lots a' places to play chorus: Six days we'll be away from here We'll steal a car, hijack a plane Ending: ------ F Fsus4 F Bb C In just six days F Fsus4 F Bb C In just six days F Fsus4 F Bb C In just six days F Fsus4 F Bb C F End on F. 11 - Swampland Of Desire ------------------------ This is not a perfect tab by any means (are any of them?), but not only do I think it's pretty good and that you can play it rather well with what's here, I will of course be adding to it as I puzzle out the various little riffs. That said, there's really not a lot missing at all. A couple of notes I can't hear in the verse, and couple more in the chorus. Bass: ---- D/F# D/F# D B A F# D G------------------------------------- D-------------------------9-7--------- A--5/9-9-9---5/9-9-9---5------9---5--- E------------------------------------- This is the bass for the verse only. Verse: ----- D I will trim your fir trees And I will light your fire And I will wrestle alligators In your swampland of desire There is something else hiding somewhere in that verse, but it's almost impossible to pick out as it gets overwhelmed by the bass just when you're coming to it. Sounds pretty good with the jangly guitar and bass anyway. Chorus: ------ D And I will come upon you Like lightning from above Bm C G And I will plant my feet into Em F# Your quagmire of love Bm C G Quagmire of love A Quagmire of love The only bit missing here is the tiny little riff(s) during the D at the start of the chorus. verse: I will trim your fir trees And I will light your fire And I will wrestle alligators In your swampland of desire chorus: So here's to my little sunbelt queen I'll take you places that you've never been And I will show you things That you have never seen And I will tell you all about Martin Sheen verse: I will trim your fir trees And I will light your fire And I will wrestle alligators In your swampland of desire Solo: ---- The solo continues over the top of a chorus, the words of which I've included under the notes... though the timing will not be exact. The 7v means to just vibrate the note a little bit (ie not quite a bend, but a slight variation). In each case the notes are vibrated and held over onto the next line, which I've tried to show in my own special way. :) (1:23) E---------------------12--10-------12--10---------------------------- B--7--10---7--10--7------------12----------10--12--10--7--10---7v...- G-------------------------------------------------------------------- D-------------------------------------------------------------------- A-------------------------------------------------------------------- E-------------------------------------------------------------------- (1:30) E----------------------------------------------------------------- B--...7v-------------------------------------------7-----7--7v...- G---------------7---9---7-------9----7--9-----9-------6----------- D----------------------------------------------------------------- A----------------------------------------------------------------- E----------------------------------------------------------------- I will come upon you like... lightning from above E---------------------------------------------------------------- B--...7v--------------------------------------------------------- G----------------------7--9----7------9-----7--9--9---9--6------- D-----------------------------------------------------------7---- A---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- And I will plant my feet into your... quagmire of love verse: I will trim your fir trees And I will light your fire And I will wrestle alligators In your swampland of desire End on D. 12 - Take Me Apart ------------------ Intro: ----- D A Bm G Verse: ----- D After two years A And two hundred thousand tears Bm G To have it end this way D The people on the hill C I know they're up there still G 'Cause we were giants in those days D A And I was always the one you said Bm G Could never adjust D C Well look at me now girl G And eat my dust - because Chorus: ------ G F# G G F# G You always got what you wanted G F# G Right from the start G F# G G Now finish the job Take me apart D A Bm G verse: The people at the college God they laughed and shook their heads They remember us livin', but They would have loved to seen us dead And you were always the one who said I could never get along Well look at me now girl 'Cause I'm still strong - you know chorus: You always got what you wanted Right from the start Now finish the job Take me apart Bridge: ------ D A Bm (hit all the bits twice, listen and you'll get it) I stole Bm I lied F#m I cried F#m For you Bm Bm G I nearly died G For you chorus: You always got what you wanted Right from the start Now finish the job Take me apart verse: D A Bm G Take me apart D A Bm G Take me apart D C G D A Bm G D C G chorus: You always got what you wanted Right from the start Now finish the job Take me apart End on D. 13 - Earwig ----------- Pretty easy chord wise. Just go for some crazy strumming during the "you got an earwig" bit, and fingerpick something during the verse. Should sound close. Verse: ----- D G Your ears fell off in the parkin' lot Your blood's still drippin' god I hope it clots You say you're okay but we know your not Your eyes went crossed do you see spots? Lyrics ------ Hangin' out in the commode Listenin' to Depeche Mode You look like some kind of toad Why are you a moron? Got a skateboard "gnarly rad" with money from your mom and dad Take a bath 'cause you smell bad Why are you a moron? Walkin' down on old South Street Say Hello to the kids you meet If knowing you is such a treat Then why are you a moron? Got kicked out of public school Make a waste of our gene pool Face it asshole, you're a fool Why are you a moron? "I'm starin' at a wall doin' nothin' at all Gotta get out a' here I could use some beer Wish I could get some beer I could use some beer tonight" In and out of trendy clubs With a pair of dayglow gloves You're the only one you love Why are you a moron? Tell us you've got somethin' to say Then bore us with your anarchy We just wish you'd go away Why are you a moron? A trendy loser's what you are It's your scene and you're it's czar I'd like to see you covered with tar Why are you a moron? Creeps like you should be wiped out You've got a face just like a trout's Listen to everybody shout Why are you a moron? "I'm followin' the trends 'cause I wanna have some friends. I wanna be somebody. Don't wanna be nobody. I wanna be somebody. I wanna be with someone tonight" I swear that you are Hitler's clone You spread disease wherever you roam Got the brains of a garden gnome Why are you a moron? Voted for Reagan not once but twice Think that Jerry Falwell's nice Do you keep your brains on ice? Why are you a moron? In the end you're all alone No one calls you on the phone Got no job you've got no home Why are you a moron? Hangin' out in the commode Listenin' to Depeche Mode You look like some kind of toad You're just a fuckin' moron! "I'm freezed up inside. All my brain cells have died. I'm gonna get out a' here. I'm gonna get out a' here. I'm gonna get out a' here. I'm gonna get out a' here tonight." End on F#m. 15 - The Fez ------------ Missing 16 - Vince Lombardi Service Center ---------------------------------- The easiest way to describe this is simply by noting the chords. There's only 2 main parts, and it should be easy enough to figure out where the parts fit in and the strumming pattern. Just repeat the following two parts as necessary. A D (x4) G D (x) E A E D A E D A E D A E (3) In latter parts, the G and D have some slight variations. The line with lots of E, A and D chords is kinda tricky. I hope it's right. Maybe some other time, I'll tab out the strumming pattern and the G and D variations, but I figured this one was pretty easy and I might as well just put it up. End on A.
