THE DEAD MILKMEN
Depression Day Dinner - Bass

from the Smokin' Banana Peels EP

Tabbed by: Mike Brennan (djpolokus@hotmail.com)

This is a weird one. The song sounds a lot like two completely
different songs with no similarities except the topic. The first
half is incredibly weird for the Milkmen, because it relies a lot on
Dean's drumming with sort of a marching tune, but the chorus is very
upbeat. This makes for a very simple bass tab. The second half is an
incredibly upbeat song with two solos(Backwards and low key), with
the first half's chorus repeated in the slow march manner. But
still, I gotta say, this is probably the best song on the Smokin'
Banana Peels EP, with The Puking Song in a very close second.

(The first half)

Verse line one:

G-2-------------
D-----3---2-----
A---------------
E---------------

It's played pretty slow, and with three notes, it's hard to mess up.

Second half of first verse:

G-------------- G-0-----------
D-5------------ or D-----1---0---
A-----6---5---- A-------------
E-------------- E-------------

Whichever one you prefer is good. I like the sound of the first one
better, on the lower strings.

Chorus:

      2
G----------------- |--------------------
D-----------------.|--------------------
A-2-2-2-2-4-----4-.|-2-2-2-2-0-----2----
E----------------- |--------------------

Played a lot faster than the verse. And in case you don't know, that
thing in the middle is a repeat sign. Play the part before three
times.

(The second half)

This has three parts. Most of it is the same line, except the part
during the low key solo. And the new chorus.

The main line:

G-----------------------------------
D-----------2-2-2-4-4-4-4---2-2-2---
A-2-2-2-2---------------------------
E-----------------------------------

The low key solo:

G-------------------------------------------------------------------
D---------------------------2-4-2-----------------------------------
A-----------4-4-2-4-4-4-4-------------------4-4-2-4-4-4-4---2-2-2---
E-2-2-2-2-------------------------2-2-2-2---------------------------

A pretty tricky line, but I guarantee you'll get the hang of it.

End chorus:

G------------------------------------------------------
D------------------------------------------------------
A-2---4---2---4---2---4---2---0---2--------------------
E-------(Hold the last note and slide up the string)---

I know the lyrics are on the site because I sent them who knows how
long ago. It's easy to follow, just remember two things:

1) The first verse has 16 lines. Play the second verse part after 8.

2) Play the low key line after the (Stew or ?) line I can't figure
out.
